Zimtrader began its journey in 2009, following dollarisation of the Zimbabwean economy, post the very challenging hyper-inflationary years.
It started life as a free community magazine with an environmental, arts and lifestyle focus.
It was distributed in hard copy all over the primarily low density suburbs of Harare in selected outlets, at no charge to readers.
It was also circulated in soft copy to the earliest members of our email recipient database. Most of those recipients are still with us today!
It contained interesting news stories and pictures, a restaurant guide, recipes, a comprehensive 'What's On' Guide, animal welfare and wildlife and environmental conservation information, and much more.
In 2014, in response to numerous requests from advertisers, we introduced our Emailshot Service, which rapidly took off, and remains extremely popular today, offering a much less expensive method of advertising, when compared with print options.
In late 2017, with the economic downturn, we suspended production of our popular print magazine.
Whilst our readers loved it, advertising bookings had declined in light of economic challenges, making the print magazine not very cost effective for us.
Our email advertising bookings, meantime, had grown at a rapid rate, because it was, and is, so affordable.
We continued, however, to publish a weekly 'What's On' e-magazine called Zimtrader Dispatches, with illustrated news stories and smalls advertising, which went out to our entire database, by then, six times its orginal size.
Today, in 2024, like all resilient Zimbabwean enterprises, we continue constantly to adapt to the ever changing scenario, and when necessary, to re-invent ourselves. Our website carries our email ads sent out over recent weeks, by category, and a simple guide to 'What's Happening' in Zimbabwe, featuring fun sports and outdoor events, clubs to join, places to go, theatre and music events and much more.
We survived the challenges of an already struggling economy, further beleaguered by Covid, in 2020, and we continue to offer our advertising clients an affordable, simple, effective way, to talk to their potential customers.
